The Mysore Orientalist

Established in 1966, the journal was instituted to disseminate the research activities of the Oriental Research Institute and to promote scholarly interaction among researchers, academicians, manuscriptologists, philologists, historians, and scholars across India and abroad. Over the decades, The Mysore Orientalist has earned recognition for publishing high-quality research based on unpublished manuscripts, rare textual sources, and authentic scholarly investigations that contribute significantly to Oriental studies.

The journal is published annually under the editorial supervision of the Director, Oriental Research Institute, with the active participation of the Institute’s scholars, research assistants, and subject experts. Each volume reflects ORI’s long-standing tradition of manuscript-based research and its commitment to preserving, critically editing, interpreting, and disseminating India’s classical knowledge traditions through rigorous academic scholarship.

Original research articles submitted to the journal undergo a structured editorial review process to ensure originality, methodological rigour, academic quality, linguistic clarity, and relevance to the scope of the journal. Particular emphasis is placed on manuscript-based research, critical editions, textual criticism, and interdisciplinary studies that contribute to the advancement of Sanskrit studies and Indian Knowledge Systems.

To date, nineteen volumes of The Mysore Orientalist have been published, with Volume XIX released in 2024. Volume XX is currently under publication and will be released shortly, continuing the journal’s enduring legacy of scholarly excellence.
